In Celebration of National Law Day May 1st, a Mock Trial was presented by IBMC Paralegal Instructors and Students for the 3rd grade class at O’Dea Elementary School.

IBMC Presented the Case of: Humpty Dumpty vs. Sherma King in a Mock Trial for the third grade students at O’Dea Elementary School on Thursday May 1st, as a National Law Day outreach program for the community.

Twelve students were chosen as Jury members while the remainder of the class listened as the “courtroom audience”.

The court was called to order by the honorable judge Rick Jennings. The case was presented by both the plaintiff Humpty Dumpty and the defendant Sherma King concerning the fall and injury sustained by Humpty Dumpty who was sitting on a wall to bring in business for Ms. Kings car dealership.  Several witnesses were called to the stand and were questioned and cross examined ie: Harry Hollywood (Humpty Dumpty’s agent, Trudy Putty (a King employee), Dr. Opal Western (Humpy Dumpty’s psychologist).

The Jury was given the facts and told to make a decision in favor of Humpty Dumpty or Sherma King. The Jury voted in favor of Humpty Dumpty, who then won the case.

After the trial Judge Jennings opened the floor for Questions and Answers. Most of the students had numerous questions which were answered by both Rick Jennings (Instructor) and Tonya Morse (Paralegal Program Director) who as attorneys are teaching paralegal courses at IBMC.
